Vancouver con...a few pics and comments

cut for pics and boring personal comments

Thursday morning Theresa and I drove up from Seattle. She drove and I took pictures out the window. We have the foothills of the Appalachians in north Alabama, but this was an entirely different kind of landscape for me. Only gonna make you look at one pic, cause I really liked the way it turned out.

Drive was fun, until we hit Vancouver. Almost literally. The directions I was working with were written out. I need a map. I'm a visual person. Show me on a map where we're going, and I'm a good navigator. Directions of "turn on X street" don't really work well for me. I knew we were supposed to be staying on 99, so I had us turn before we should have, cause of the road signs. It all worked out okay, cause we crossed the road we were going to turn onto, but it was a little nerve-wracking for a bit.

I really wanted to take more pictures as we drove, cause DAMN!! Vancouver's BIG! But Theresa objected to me not looking at street signs. We were a little frazzled by the time we got to the hotel and checked in. So we chilled a bit in the room, while Theresa got out the map (actual map for this!) of nearby liquor stores. Then we asked at the desk, and there was one, not on her map, right out the back door of the hotel. Convenient!

Walked around a bit, found a grocery store and saw several places to eat later. Passed Earls, and thought it looked too expensive, cause everyone we could see through the windows was dressed in suits and ties or dressy dresses. Found a grocery store and grabbed some sandwiches and snacks for later. I've never been in a 2-story grocery store. Everything in Vancouver goes up instead of out. I'm used to lots of land per person, so stores and houses sprawl out sideways instead of going up. Went back to the liquor store and then to the room to stash goodies in the ref.

Caught up with wolfpup2000, Tonya, when she got through with the location tour. She said Russ, the location dude, suggested Earl's, and said it wasn't that expensive or formal. So we walked around the block. AWESOME food, great service, and our jeans weren't commented on. Go see Tonya's LJ if you want more pics. She's a much better photographer than I am.

We liked it so much we tried to go back Friday, but there was a wait, so we got pizza around the corner. Good, but not Earls. Went back Saturday night, no wait. Enough variety on the menu that I could have eaten every meal there.

Friday morning we wanted to do a harbor tour, but the time didn't work out so we were sure we'd be back by the time the con started. Yeah, we've seen/heard Gabe several times, but he's cute. So we caught an open top bus and rode around town. Wish we'd had time to get off and explore, cause it was a "hop-on, hop-off" bus. Too bad we didn't see it Thursday afternoon! Got to see lots of things we wouldn't have otherwise, so it was a good morning. Loved not having a top on the bus so I could take pictures of the really, really tall buildings. Don't have those where I'm from ;) Also loved all the Prius taxis! LOL! I love my car, and saw more of them on this trip than in the two years I've owned it. Theresa liked the bus tour cause she didn't have to drive, so she could relax and enjoy the sights, too. I liked that I didn't have to figure out where we were, cause it was going to circle back to our hotel.

There are lots of great pics of the con out there, so I'm only going to post a few. Also lots of reports out there, so I'm just giving personal observations.

We had a GUY sitting next to us!! A real, straight guy! LOL!! You know those are rare at Supernatural cons. Chris was great fun, and we enjoyed talking to him. He was local, and worked at Best Buy or one of those kind of stores. He'd seen the Boys in the store before, but didn't bother them. He said Canadians don't seem to react to actors like Americans do. Either they're just more polite (probably) or they're used to them in Vancouver. So he had no gossip on what, if anything, they bought. I think this was his first Supernatural con, but he was used to other SF cons, and surprised at how many women were there.

The Steve Carlson concert Friday night had the best sound of any time I've seen him at a con. It was great. Spent a lot of time over the weekend talking to people we knew from the net or other cons. Always fun to put faces to names.

Saturday was good. Had time to wander off and talk and eat since we didn't do any photo ops that day.

Sunday...The Boys!!! Didn't get as many pics of Jared at breakfast as I'd planned, cause they had us put the cameras down after a few minutes. Wish there'd been warning! Wouldn't have mattered, I'd still have more pics of Jensen.

They were fun, as always. Not sure what genius put out three chairs and only 2 microphones. This room was great for breakfast, cause it was airy and very light. Was also quite amusing when Jared looked out the windows at the apartment/condo building across the street and said something like, "Hey look! Faux decks!" Jensen explained those were real decks, and people lived over there. Seems the middle building in the hotel complex rents out apartments, and that's where Jensen lived during the first few seasons of Supernatural.

Photo ops were great. The boys were having fun. A lot of fun. So things ran late, and we didn't get a separate talk with Jared. Still haven't heard anything about the why, cause to me it would have made more sense to cut each segment that day to get back on track. So, like breakfast, I have more Jensen pics. Here, have a few...

Can anyone tell me why a watch needs this many things sticking out of it? This is Jensen's, and it looks like you'd need an engineering degree to set it.

I'll post some pics from the location tour later. Part of them may be spoilery, cause the place they filmed is for episodes later in season 5. There'll be a warning in place before you see the pics. Although I'm not sure how spoilery the pics will be, since I'm NOT going to repost the comments Russ made about the episodes being filmed. The man is fun, but does NOT understand "spoiler free". LOL!!

LOL!! This weekend there's a ghost hunting seminar kind of thing in town. Classes on the paranormal, and an investigation of a couple of places. I know one of them is haunted, but don't know anything about the other two sites. Just hope I can stay up that late after working all day tomorrow. Here's the website for the group doing it: http://www.southernparanormalresearchers.org/ with a schedule on the page. I hope this is as much fun as I want it to be.
